CAN KILL FOR MY LOVE, IF NEED BE
Feb 14 2011 |

What do you do when a man torments your woman ? Nice words won’t do
at all ! It is not that I tried them . And he is a powerful man . You see he is
the master’s brother in law. To make it specific, he is the brother of my
master’s wife. It is a palatial house, almost a palace. My master is the
owner of all the land around. No, he did not work hard for it. You know
these rich people. They inherit land. They inherit wealth. And they think
they own all the women around too.
My master is weak. He is getting old too. He married late in his life. His wife,
my mistress, is a kind lady. But I don’t know where she got her brother.
He is a boor. He is uncouth. You can bring in all the bad words you know
and I would not be wrong if I used all of them . So one has  a situation here where the master is weak, the mistress is kind and her strong and evil
brother runs the show.
I don’t know whether it is fate or what. We came here to work. The pay was
not bad. I work as the cook and my wife works as the maid. She could have
been the cook, but the problem is I cannot be the maid. So this is the way
we split the available work.
Well, we are not sure whether we would have taken up this work if we had
known about this brother in law. He was not there when we started. And
now he is very much there. He saw my wife and I guess he was bowled
over. I don’t blame him. She is beautiful to say the least. And she has got
his long hair which she does not comb. I like her this way. But the problem
is that this BIL character also likes her. I don’t think it is just a simple like .
I can see it in his evil eyes.
This guy has lot of work to do. He has to look after the whole place and all
the lands. And what does he do ? He is spending all his time in his sister’s
room . It is not that he has found any new love for his sister. It is just that
he is after the sister’s maid. Yes, he is after my wife ! My mistress does not
seem to understand. She sends goodies to him through her. Some special
dish made in the kitchen has to go to him first. I don’t mind it but I do mind
the route it takes. My mistress sends these things to him through her
maid. It is so bad that she has started sending liquor through her . That too
in the evening hours !
I am really worried. He is evil and lusty. And then you pour liquor into him.
Finally you put a beautiful lady in front of him.. I just don’t want to imagine..
My fears came true last night. It seems the villain forced himself upon her.
She really had a hard time getting out of his room . She came to me and
started crying.
I felt very angry. I told her that I will go to his room and beat him up into a
pulp or that I can poison him She said that we should get into trouble . Let
us see how we can do it without anybody knowing it. We discussed various
options and came out with the plan.
I was carrying lunch for my master next day when the villain stopped me
and enquired about my health. He has never done it before. He would curse
me whenever he saw me. But he was even smiling today . That one may
smile, and smile, and be a villain (1). He thinks he is going to make me a
cuckold. I think our plan is working. My wife must have told him that she
will see him tonight. Our plan was that she will tell him that she will be in
the work out room in the night and he can come there and enjoy her.
Bastard ! It seems he was lascivious and told her that he will have a real
work out tonight ! No shame at all... It all worked out the way we planned.
He came there in the night. I was sitting there dressed like a woman. He
came to caress me. And I beat him upto a pulp. Real pulp ! And it is no
fiction . I am sure they will call all of us for questioning and finally will
round up the usual suspects (2) !
Yes, if you do really love your woman, you may have to kill if need be. At
least that is what I did

AJANTAVASA -FIND US IF YOU CAN (THE COWARD PRINCE)

My father, the king, has a new sidekick. He is a poor Brahmin who
came from somewhere about a year ago. My father makes bad jokes and
this man is forced to laugh. My father loves the game of dice. So does this
man except for the fact that he is lousy at it . My father gets vicarious
pleasure defeating this man every day. I feel bad for this man. So one day I
played a game with him. He was very bad but I did manage ot lose to him.

It made him happy. He went aorund everywhere saying that he defeated
Prince Uttara Kumara in dice. I let him be. That is how I am.
I was never good at either swordsplay or archery. It n
ever
interested me . I abhorred the idea of violence. At times I was frightenend
by it. I guess I was put off by the behaviour of my maternal uncle. He was
such a big bully that he gave bad name to all fighting. It is possible that I
took up this idea of peace as an antidote to all that violence.
Talking of my uncle, it is violence which killed him. My uncle
Keechaka ( yes, that is his name) always felt that he is the gift of God to all
the women in the universe. No woman was safe in this kingdom because of
him. It seems he took undue interest in a lady who got him killed by one of
her husbands. Husbands ? Yes, it seems she has five !
Talking of this lady, she is my mother’s maid. I can see why uncle
got interested in her. She is extremely beautiful. Yes, most of our people
are enamoured of fair complexion and may find her trifle dark. Though a
maid, she looks very regal. She is very courteous and always bows down
to me. I bow back. Some people think I should not be bowing to maids but
that is how I am.
We had wonderful rains this time in Virat. Great crops too !
People say that may be our Matsya kindom is playing host to some good
people. May be it is true ! That nice brahmin who pla
ys dice with my father
is one such good person. Of course, we get lot of people here. Only some
are interesting. Take that cook of ours. I think he came in about a year ago.
Great cook, but very bad tempered too. There was one dish he made which
I did not like. I mentioned it gently. Yes, I say gently since a look at him
will tell you why one better be gentle with him. He is a mountain of a man.
When I told him about the dish, he did not like it. He made a big issue of it.
He started saying things against the royalty. The king plays dice all the
time, the commander in chief ( that is our uncle Keechaka) is always after
women and the prince ( that is me) does not even know how a spiced risce
dish should taste. After that day I learnt to say only good things about his
dishes. Whatever it is some people say he was responsible for the death of
my uncle. Let it be. Nobody in our kingdom misses him. But we hope no
enemy invades us since our powerful uncle is no more with us.
Another interesting character is my sister’s dance teacher. Like
most dance teachers he is also an eunuch. But something tells me he is
more than that. If he were a man, he would be very handsome . Talking of
handsome people, these two brothers who look after our horses and cattle
are also extemely handsome guys. It seems the girls in town go gaga over
these fellows.
There is something strange in all this. All these six people I
talked about came almost a year ago. Are they related or something? No, I
should learn t

!

o understand what is a coincidence and what is not.
Finally the disaster has struck. Some people have invaded us from
east and taken away our cattle. I guess they know t

hat we are easy prey
now since our uncle Kechaka is not here any more with us. Father has
taken the army to defeat them and get the cattle back.
Meanwhile we are told there is a huge army invading us from the
east. They say it is the kaurava army. Why have they come here ? What is it
they want ?
Who will face them now ? I am the only royalty in the place now. And
father has taken away all the army. And I don’t even know how to fight !

What do we do now? When the news reached the city, I was with my siser
in the harem. As soon as I heard the news, I boasted that I will defeat
single handedly the whole force of Kauravas. I really don’t know why I said
that but it registered heavily on the womefolk there,One of the ladies
reminded me that I will have to face the dreaded trinity of Bhishma, Drona
and Karna. After having started it, I had to keep up the pretence. Big Deal !
So what ? I will even bring them as prisoners. Why don’t you go to the
battlefield asked the ladies in the harem. I don’t have a charioteer. That is
my misfortune. I thought that would be the end of the whole affair.
It is at that time the queen’s maid, the regal lady, entered and
mentioned Brihannala, my sister’s dance teacher had worked as a
charioteer too. She told me that I could use him to drive the chariot. I
laughed loud and said how could this Napumsak drive a chariot. It was
then that he/she came forward and said that he/she had indeed driven the
chariots of Pandavas at different times.
I could not get out of the mess I had created. I did not want to take
part in any war let alone this one. But I had to make a big show of
agreeing to the inevitable and we set out. As he/she drove me towards the
battlefield , I regaled him with various stories of my prowess. It was all lies
but we had to pass time. As we neared the battlefield, my stories came to
an abrupt end. Yes, as I saw the vast army of the Kuravas , I fell totally
silent. And I told the charioteer to stop.
Below - Brihannale and Prince Utatra Kumara
Brihannala , let us go back.
Prince Sir, what about the cattle?
Look, few cows are not worth all the struggle.
Prince Sir, I heard it was more like thousand cows.
Brihannala , let us forget all this and go back to the city.
Prince Sir, this is not the correct attitude for a prince . You
should fight even if it is one cow.
A disgust at the ensuing violence shook me up. At the same time
I realized that I was afraid too.
Eh ! Napumsak, I don’t want to hear any sermons from you. Turn
the chariot back to the city.
But the chariot did not stop and actually went nearer the army. I
jumped off the the chariot and started to run back toward the city .
Brihannale ran after me and caught up with me . He told me that he was
going to fight and I could drive the chariot.
Brihannale, this is not the time for jokes, Let us go back!
He held me tight and started talking:
Prince Uttara ! Pandavas at the end of their 12th year chose your
kingdom to spend a year incognito.
Brihannale,, go and tell your jokes to somebody else
Prince ! The great Yudhishtira was Kanka, your father’s Brahmin
friend !
Really ? The who was the mighty Bhimasena ?
Prince, think about it ! Whou could have killed a powerful man
like your uncle K

echaka ?
Nobody is sure , but t was said the cook Valala killed him....You
mean to say Bhimasena was the cook Valala.
Yes, Prince Uttara
Then Lady Sairandhri must be Queen Panchali and those two
handsomeguys are Nakula and Sahadeva
Yes, Price Uttara
And who is the great Partha
Think Prince Uttara. And while you keep thinking go near the
Banni (Shami) tree where thePandavas have kept all their weapons
I think I got it. You are the great Arjuna
Yes, Prince Uttara. And let me thankyou and your kingdome
for hosting us for a year. .. Let us go and get that Gandiva bow.
Sir Partha, now I don’t have to worry anymore. I know you will
single handedly vanquish the Kaurava army
Yes, Prince , that I will. Meanwhile let me tell you one thing. I
know you love peace and abhor violence. Yes, your sister has told me a
little about you. But your ideals do not work in this real word where
violence is the order of the day. Let this skrimish be over. I will personally
train you in archery so that nobody can take advantage of you.. The
Kauravas were not able to find us. One does not know what is there in
future now.... For now, please take me nearer the Kuru army.

( Prince Uttara Kumara, the son of King Virata, is the narrator of the story.
This is a partial account of the Virata parva of Mahabharata. When
Yudhishtira loses his wager, pandavas are asked to go and spend 12
months in the forest and one month incognito. Pandavas chose Virata
nagari , the capital of the Matsya kingdom to spend the last year.
Keechaka, the king’s brother in law tries to seduce Queen Panchali who
works as the maid. Bheemasena, working as the cook, kills him. Later
Kauravas guess that Pandavas could be in Virata nagari and invade it .
Arjuna vanquishes them and sends them back to Hastinapuri.Princess
Uttare , Arjuna’s dance pupil, ges married to his son Avhimanyu
It is on the Vijaya dashami day that Pandaa’s incognito period (ajnatavasa)
comes to an end. On this day even now the Mysore king goes to the Banni
(Shami ) tree to worship it
A famous telugu film called NARTANASHALA based on teh virata parva of
